Known as Coach K's Original High Flyer from his basketball playing days at Duke University, Robert Brickey is a man of distinction, a winner, a mentor, a coach, a teacher, a friend, a father and personifies the traits of character and integrity.  Brickey developed and refined many of these traits as a player under Coach Mike Krzyzewski's guidance at Duke from 1986 - 1990. He acquired the other traits by applying himself to each and every endeavor he took on over the course of his life's journey.

Currently, Brickey continues to build an impressive resume by joining Hoops City U as its new Director of Basketball. Brickey's prior experience included a three year stint as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Shaw University (2005-08), and collegiate coaching experiences at North Carolina Central University (2009-11), Duke University (2008-09), James Madison University in Harrisburg, Virginia (2004-05), Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas (2002-04) and the United States Military Academy at West Point (2000-02).

An Impressive Playing Resume:

A consensus Top 50 national basketball recruit from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Brickey was the State of North Carolina Mr. Basketball and High School Player of the Year in 1986. During his illustrious high school career, Brickey was named 1st Team All State, a 3 time All Conference Performer, All-City, All county, All Eastern North Carolina, 2 Time State Playoff East Regional MVP, Team MVP and Captain of the E.E. Smith Golden Bulls. All of these accolades were accomplished by putting his team first and leading them to conference championships in all 3 of his varsity years.  Brickey also lead E.E. Smith to the State Championship Game and State Semi-Finals in his Junior and Senior years garnering him a spot on several High School All American lists.

Brickey was a three year starter for the Blue Devils and accumulated 109 wins in his 4 year career including the 1988 ACC Tournament Championship. As a senior at Duke, Brickey was Captain of Coach Krzyzewski's 3rd consecutive NCAA Final Four team that went on to play in the 1990 NCAA National Championship game. Brickey earned the nickname of King Dunk around the Atlantic Coast Conference and he was featured on the cover of an ACC basketball season preview with that moniker entering his senior year. Brickey finished his Duke career with 1,200 points and 649 rebounds, and left Duke as one of its all-time career field-goal percentage leaders at 55 percent.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Duke University.  Known for his athleticism and high wire rim rocking dunks, Brickey soared around during his college year. A native of Fayetteville, NC, Brickey played four years at Duke from the 1986-87 season through the 1989-90 season.  Robert Brickey set the stage and paved the way for Duke University small forwards that played above the rim.  Coming off of an NCAA National Championship Game appearance and graduating Dukes first #1 recruiting class of five seniors, Coach Mike Krzyzewski was in search of a wing player that could change the momentum of games with his athleticism. Robert Brickey, North Carolina High School Player of The Year was just what Coach K was looking for and throughout his career at Duke he delivered in some of the biggest games.

Brickey was one of Coach K's most dependable and versatile players throughout his career.  He was a 6'5" and 210 lb. Small Forward, but Coach Krzyzewski believed in him enough to play him at the center position for a stretch during his freshman year. During that stretch, Brickey made up for the lack of height at the center position with his leaping ability, quickness, strength, fundamentals and basketball intelligence. These attributes often turned the mismatch into his favor.

One of Brickey's most cherished honors was being selected by USA Basketball to play on the under 19 National Team. He and his teammates represented his country on the world stage and won Silver at the Junior World championships in 1987. Brickey finished his career at Duke as one of the most beloved players to dawn the Blue Devil uniform and is still talked about with reverence.  He followed his basketball accolades by receiving his Bachelor of Arts in political Science from Duke University.

Once his playing days concluded, he turned his attention to making a difference in the lives of youth.  Today, Brickey continues to fly high through basketball camps, small group instruction, public speaking engagements, motivation seminars, philanthropy, TV appearance, radio discussion and basketball expert analysis.

Currently Brickey is a full time motivational speaker, basketball skills trainer, clinician and camp director. Robert Brickey is training young and professional NBA players locally as well as internationally.
